Hi! :D Hmmm. It’s going to be hard to tell if you chose the right course or not because only you can tell that for yourself. However, may I know the reason why you chose it? Kasi ngayon pa lang, I’ll give you a disclaimer, medyo mahirap siya. BUT! That’s a big but, haha. Lahat naman ng course mahirap. AND. If you have the heart for people with disabilities and the drive to help them, then you chose the right course. Because I have learned in the 3 years that I have been here, that a speech pathologist can make such a great impact on so many lives. But it took me 3 years to figure that out. So don’t be disappointed it you feel like parang walang pinupuntahan lahat ng effort mo sa pag-aaral because feeling lang naman un. Meron at merong pupuntahan yang paghihirap natin. All this hard work would go into learning how to touch lives. And that feeling when you know that you’ve touched someone’s life even with all the sleepless nights and stress, it’s just magical. It’s all worth it in the end. ;)

I hope I was able to help, even just a little bit. If you tell me the main reason why you chose it, I think I can help you better. Hihi. Don’t hesitate to ask any more questions. So good luck this coming school year, Iskolar ng Bayan! ;)

On the 2nd day of 2013

It’s only the 2nd of January, year 2013, and UP Manila students were tasked to go to school already. It sucks because all the other universities, yes, even other UP campuses, go back, the earliest, on the 3rd.

Another thing was, our class today included a 4 hour lecture on APHASIA. Aphasia is so complicated because it is a problem in a person’s already established language system. And my goodness, I have talked about how just topics on normal language development already drove us crazy. I tried my hardest to keep taking notes but by the last 30 minutes, my cognitive processing failed me. I was at a retention capacity deficit. That’s just new jargon I learned today. LOL.

What’s worse? Our canteens were still on vacation so we had to go out of the university for food. Such hassle. :\

But the good thing was we had our Cleft Lip and Palate class in the afternoon and it was all about embryology and genetics and it was fuuuuun. :D Plus, the morning and afternoon commute was traffic-free. That’s because we’re the only students travelling today. :))

Holidays. :)

It’s officially Christmas vacation for me! Whoopdidooday! :D

This December has been one of the most hectic Decembers of my life because of all the Lantern Parade preparations going on in UP Manila. It was a a fun Lantern Parade season for our college, yet again, but very busy and somewhat heartbreaking. But ‘tis the season to be jolly and jolly will I be because UP Diliman just finished their Lantern Parade tonight and I was able to catch it as well. Two years of attending two straight Lantern Parades! XD

So yeah, it’s Christmas break, hopefully I get to update my blog more often. AND! Exercise more. I’m thinking of doing some intense workouts before all the feasts really begin. However, I’m sick again. UGH. I just got better from a super long-lasting cough and cold. Now, the same scenario’s going on. :|

Oh well, kahel. At least I get to sleep in! YEAAAAH. XD

The awesome professor.

I’m sitting at my desk at 1am reviewing for more exams next week. One of those exams is the dreaded Language exam. You see, of all subjects, it’s Language I am having the most difficulty with because the concepts are so abstract and hard to grasp. I like subjects which are more scientific and stuff.

So as I am sitting here, being groggy and all, since it’s so early in the morning, I don’t fall asleep. In fact, I lost all forms of grogginess. WHY? Because I am reading on the famous SLPM (Speech and Language Processing Model) topic by Ma’am Jean Christine Vela, CSP-PASP. It is based on Nation and Aram’s Model. AND BOY, does she explain it well.

I never get any topics on Language on the first lecture. I usually have to read it again after the lecture to be able to grasp the concept. I am just amazed when I remember the first day she lectured in our Language class. For the first time, I was in tune with the lecture and I actually got it. And as I am reading up on it again for next week’s exam, I find the true essence of REviewing. Unlike other topics where my reviewing is actually just learning it first.

So guys, if you are taking up Speech Pathology in the Philippines, whether it be in UP or UST(but I’m not sure if she talks there as well), if Ma’am Jean guest speaks and lectures for a class, be prepared to get your minds blown. SHE IS AWESOME. :D

Half a month.

I’ve got 15 days left of junior year, 15 days ‘til I can be called an intern. And it is in these days that you feel like you are so near yet so far. All the other universities are on summer vacation already and it’s not even finals week for me. I mean, come one. I’ve got 2 long exams, 1 practical exam, an evaluation paper, an intervention plan, a home program, a case presentation, a research symposium and four final exams before I can even taste a bit of summer.

It’s like 15 days of whirlwinds and rollercoasters. I just want to be able to eat right (I’ve been eating at the wrong times, messing up my metabolism +stress eating), exercise daily, and sleep well again. I just want summer please.

SUMMER. Y U NO COME ANY SOONER???

I can feel the stress of the last two months of my being a junior. One last before internship. There are too many exams to study for, projects to work on, papers and reports to write, clients to be assessed, cases to be analyzed, and so on and so forth. I just hope I don’t burn out before internship starts. :(

This was one of the reasons I was so busy when the second semester started this year. We were tasked to come up with a good facade for our college for the Lantern Parade season which happens yearly just before Christmas break.
This year’s theme was “Pagmamahal at Pagkakaisa”. It was such a cheesy theme that it was hard to come up with something unique for it. But I’m pretty proud of my college mates,PT majors, OT majors, and fellow SP majors, for making it possible. :>
Basically, we made a heart(gold because it’s our college’s 50th year) out of various recycled materials that was also made up of gears representing all the colleges in UP Manila. This represented the love and unity the theme asked for. We decorated our windows show the things SPs, OTs, and PTs do to help. The lights going around are supposedly arteries and veins that go around it and to the heart. The heart is our gift to the nation, our beloved Philippines because we are Iskolars ng Bayan.  And we had a gigantic letter to the Philippines explaining why this is our gift. So yeah. It is cheesy. HAHA.
I think I shall explain further in a text post. :P

SEMBREAK!!!!

I have seriously no idea how to describe my joy right now. Like seriously. I have been through hell and back because of the past semester. Majors was no joke. God, I have no idea, still, why in the world, speech pathology is so demanding. I hate how our college has such high standards as compared to other colleges within our university. It’s not fair.

I came into this semester with a cum laude GWA. Now, I have no idea how low it’ll be. Oh well. I tried my best. I fought. And I survived. For now, that’s good enough. I’m just glad it’s all over.

So Ima take a little R&R before I enter into my last semester purely as a student because after that, I’ll be an intern. @_@ Yes, it’s scary. But I know my God will carry me through anything. After all, He just helped me survive this al;kdjfa;ljfda;jkdf semester. HAHAHA.

So my TTDs for this 2 week break:

  1. CIRCUIT WORKOUTS!!! (I need to lose at least 5 pounds before going back to school)
  2. Read books. :> Like leisure ones.
  3. Draaaaw. :P

Hearing is a sense we sometimes take for granted and because of that, we think hearing aids and implants aren’t really much of a big deal. Yesterday, I realized how big of an impact hearing aids, bone conduction implants and cochlear implants had on the hearing impaired.
It was nice that a few companies that offer these implants here in the Philippines came to present during our Audiology class. And a cochlear implantee even gave a testimony of how it changed her life. The whole thing just wowed me. How amazing technology is, huh?
